Nayan comes with a professional martial arts background. He has Black Belt from Japan Karate Federation Wado Kai and coached a team of Karate players who went on to win National and International medals for his former employer Srilankan Airlines. He was the under 19 national champion in Karate (Fighting) in Srilanka and has a Gold Medal in Common Wealth Karate Championships Representing SriLanka.
Nayan Introduced Zouk-Lambada to U.A.E. with Sam in early 2009. He first started learning Brazilian Zouk at Rio Rhythmics in Brisbane Australia. He learned the fundamentals of Zouk from one of the pioneers Tarcisio Teatini Climaco at Rio Rhythmics Dance Academy. He later studied this dance style closely with Kadu Pires and Larissa Thayane – two of the most renowned Zouk dancers in the world.
Nayan spent hours to shape up his Zouk techniques with the help of Brazilian dance instructor Alisson Rodrigues Sandi who is based in Perth, Australia.
Later Nayan attended workshops by famous zouk instructors in Europe such as Ailton Silva (Berlin) and Junior Carvalho (Hamburg), Adilio Porto and Kwok Wan (Amsterdam).
In Dubai Nayan teamed up with Samantha, Pedro, Karen, Katharina, Aminu and determined to bring this beautiful dance into prominence. He is one of the founders of Zouk Dubai and is now spreading Zouk throughout the UAE and the Gulf.
